What a QuoteCalm check can — and cannot — tell you.

QuoteCalm is operated by David McGlashan trading as QuoteCalm. It looks at the information visible in the quote you upload and can help you make sense of the paperwork, the figures and the questions worth asking. It does not inspect your home.

Helpful information, not professional advice

QuoteCalm is designed to help consumers understand and compare quotations. It is not a structural survey, electrical design, legal advice, financial advice, investment advice or a guarantee that an installer, product, system design or quoted price is right for your home.

Some things need a site visit

A quotation cannot tell us everything. QuoteCalm cannot verify roof condition, shading, cable routes, grid constraints, scaffolding complexity, structural suitability, workmanship or other site-specific circumstances from the paperwork alone.

Price comparisons have limits

Any price range or comparison is a guide, not a valuation. Installation costs can vary because of property access, equipment, electrical work, roof complexity, region, timing and what is included. If QuoteCalm does not have enough like-for-like evidence, the report should say so rather than give you a falsely precise market verdict.

Installer and scheme information

If a quotation mentions MCS, RECC, TrustMark or another scheme, that does not mean QuoteCalm has checked the installer’s current membership. Unless the report explicitly says a live check was carried out, you should verify credentials directly with the relevant scheme before committing.

QuoteCalm can occasionally misread a document

Automated document reading is not perfect. Check important figures against the original quotation, especially prices, finance terms and system details. If something looks wrong, you can correct key figures in the report or tell us about it.

Sometimes we cannot give a useful result

QuoteCalm may stop or limit a check if a document is unreadable, incomplete, unsupported or simply does not contain enough useful information. If that happens, we will tell you rather than guess.
